In the Exhibition of 1762, there were two enamel pictures ofMr. Spencers production; but the author can by no meansrecollect their merits or defeats: he only knows that the artiitdid not long furvive that period. He left a daughter, who mar-ried a perfon of the name of Lloyd : This gentleman furvivedliis lady, and at his death, Mr. Spencers remaining collectionof neglected miniatures, unfinimed performances, together withhis painting materials, were fold by auction by Hutchins, AVells,and Fifcher, in King-ftreet, Co vent-garden, in December 1797.In the fale there was a three-quarter portrait of Spencer,which was painted by Sir Jofhua Reynolds, foon after hisreturn from Italy. Mr. Walpole, in his fourth volume, fpeaks of this gentle-man, but appears to have known hut Jittle about him, andonly mentions his death, which happened October 30th 1763,at his houfe in Great Marlborough-ftreet, where he had refidedfome years. There is a fniall portrait of this artift etched by himfelf. GEORGE LAMBERT. This refpe&able gentleman has been very properly noticedby Mr. Walpole, in his lafl volume of Anecdotes ; it may there-fore be thought unneceflary, that further mention mould be madeof him in this Work ; but as there are fome circumflancesattending the life of this artift, which appear to have beenwholly unknown to the Honourable Biographer, it cannot beimproper again to introduce his name, as it furnifhes an oppor-tunity of recording fome events not wholly unconnected withthe fpirit of the times in w
